China is not "pulling up the ladder" behind anyone, a spokesperson said on Wednesday, reaffirming that China will remain a trustworthy partner for the other Global South countries.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing, responding to claims that China only cares about its own development while "pulling up the ladder" behind the other Global South countries.
China is dedicated to building ladders for others, Mao said, citing the Belt and Road Initiative, the supply of high-value, low-cost industrial equipment and tech products, and zero-tariff policies.
Mao said pursuing mutual benefit and shared success is the defining value of China's international cooperation.
The so-called "ladder-pulling" rhetoric finds no traction among Global South countries, the spokesperson said, adding that China will always uphold the principle of mutual benefit and common development and help boost revitalization of the Global South through its own development.
