The Communist Party of China's approach to democracy and human rights has gained increasing recognition, while China's modernization achievements have received positive assessments, a global survey report has shown.

According to the report "Global Survey: Party Governance and Modernization in China", 97.6 percent of respondents in Global South countries strongly agree with the CPC's concepts and practices regarding democracy and human rights governance, while 95.1 percent said the CPC's role as the core leadership force in China's modernization has become even more prominent.

Based on a survey of more than 14,000 respondents in 38 countries across five continents, the report examines international perceptions of the CPC's governance, including its guiding philosophy, governance practices and role in advancing the country's economic and social development.

Moreover, 94.8 percent of respondents positively assessed Chinese modernization, believing it has a bright future and provides a solid foundation for global development. The report also concludes that the Chinese people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security has also become increasingly tangible and substantial.

The report was released on Friday by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies, during the seminar themed "Political Parties and Global Governance", which is a parallel session of the 2026 Think Tank Forum on National Governance in Developing Countries in Beijing.

Experts said China's experience and accomplishments in high-quality development have provided a useful reference for countries in the Global South and made significant contributions to global development.

Yu Yunquan, vice-president of the China International Communications Group, said as the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, countries of the Global South are gaining greater influence and a stronger voice on the international stage, and have emerged as an important force driving multipolarity and economic globalization.

In the face of accelerating multipolarization and globalization, countries of the Global South need to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, deepen economic and trade ties, and foster closer people-to-people exchanges, he said.

Pompeo Della Posta, professor at the Belt and Road School (Zhuhai Campus) of Beijing Normal University, said that political parties should reflect the will of the people, work toward social development goals, and promote the well-being and common development of society.

"As countries of the Global South play an increasingly prominent role in global governance, they are making important contributions to improving global governance and promoting a more diverse and inclusive international order. Against this backdrop, political parties in developing countries should take on greater responsibilities and contribute more ideas and solutions to addressing global challenges," he said.

Wang Yiwei, vice-president of the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Renmin University of China, said political parties lie at the core of modern political civilization, playing a pivotal role in advancing political development and modernizing national governance.

"The Western-dominated global governance model often concentrates decision-making in the hands of a few countries, leaving many others with little voice in the process. This 'the strong prey on the weak' approach needs to be reformed to make global governance more equitable and inclusive," he said.

Zoon Ahmed, a research fellow at Tsinghua University, said global governance faces a growing leadership deficit, and traditional governance mechanisms are becoming increasingly ineffective.

"Against this backdrop, countries of the Global South are leveraging multilateral platforms such as BRICS to champion openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, deepen practical collaboration, and uphold multilateralism as well as fairness and justice in global governance," she said.

As a member of the Global South, China has continued to provide public goods and governance solutions through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the global initiatives on development and governance among others, and mechanisms such as BRICS, making positive contributions to building a more equitable and just international order, Ahmed added.

"Today, the Global South is no longer a 'silent majority'. Countries of the Global South should work together to address the challenges of modernization and share development and governance experience," she said.
