Jun porcelain vessel symbolizing worldwide peace and prosperity

In 2008, Sihai Shengping, a Jun porcelain vessel created by Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts Kong Xiangqing, was permanently added to the collection of the United Nations Headquarters. It features a spherical top and a cylindrical base. The sphere is adorned with four dragon-shaped handles, each fitted with two movable rings, adding a sense of vitality. Between the handles are relief carvings of the traditional Chinese auspicious creatures known as the Four Divine Beasts. The lower cylindrical part is decorated with motifs of mountains and seas, symbolizing fortune and longevity. In traditional Chinese culture, rolling waves and standing rocks represent harmony and stability. Together with the Four Divine Beasts which represent the four directions of east, west, south, and north, the vessel embodies the wish for worldwide peace and prosperity.
