On December 24, China Media Group unveiled the nation's top 10 archaeological news stories of 2025, with China's Oldest Wooden Coffins Discovered at Jiahu Ruins in Henan among them.
Archaeologists have discovered wooden coffins in several tombs at the Jiahu Ruins, suggesting that the burial system, a key part of ancient Chinese ritual practices, was emerging some 8,000 years ago, pushing back the known history of wooden coffins by about 2,000 years.

The Jiahu Ruins is a well-preserved and culturally rich site from the early Neolithic period, dating back roughly 9,000 to 7,500 years. Since its discovery in 1983, it has been excavated 10times, yielding more than 6,000 artifacts. (Chinese source: dahe.cn Translator: Yang Jiaxin Proofreader: Li Wenjing and Zhao Hanqing)
