On May 6, Henan's transportation authorities announced that during the just-concluded May Day holiday, travel demand surged across the province, with long-distance and local tourism continuing to heat up. To meet the increased demand, Henan expanded transportation capacity across highways, railways, and air routes. Both the daily highway traffic volume and railway passenger numbers hit record highs, while overall travel remained safe and orderly throughout the holiday.
In terms of road transport, benefiting from the toll-free highway policy during the holiday, Henan's expressways recorded a total of 17.2014 million vehicle exits, up 10.11% year-on-year. Of these, passenger vehicles accounted for 15.9604 million exits, an increase of 10.67% compared to the same period in 2024. On the first day of the holiday, expressway traffic reached 4.2588 million vehicles, setting a new single-day record.
In terms of rail transport, China Railway Zhengzhou Group transported a total of 4.4407 million passengers over the holiday, an increase of 486,600 passengers, or 12.3% year-on-year. On May 1, the railway handled 979,200 passengers, setting a new single-day record for passenger departures.
In terms of air transport, Zhengzhou airport facilitated smooth travel for over 400,000 passengers during the holiday. Popular destinations included Kunming, Urumqi, Haikou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Sanya, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Chongqing. The airport handled more than 3,000 inbound and outbound flights in total, with an average of over 600 flights per day. The peak day was the first day of the holiday, with 664 flights operated.
