Nestled in the dense forests at the northern foot of Shaoshi Mountain, the Shaolin Temple is renowned worldwide as the birthplace of Chan (Zen) Buddhism. About one kilometer northwest of the temple, on a small hill beneath Wuru Peak, stands another site rich in historical and cultural significance: Chuzu Hermitage. First built in 1125 AD, during the seventh year of the Xuanhe reign of the Northern Song Dynasty, Chuzu Hermitage was established to honor Bodhidharma's legendary nine years of wall-facing meditation. Because of this, it is also known as the "Mianbi Hermitage" or "Hermitage of Wall Meditation". The compound measures 88.28 meters from north to south and 38.72 meters from east to west, covering an area of 0.34 hectares. (Text: Henan Daily Photo: Deng Fang)
