On March 24, Henan Mobile announced the successful development of the province's first 10G optical network (pilot project) in Kaifeng. This marks a pivotal moment in Henan's shift into the 10G network era, driving the evolution towards ultra-fast, high-capacity, and intelligent connectivity, while fostering new possibilities for industrial growth.

What is a 10G optical network? To put it simply, it represents the next evolution inoptical network technology. By using fiber optics as the transmission medium and advanced optical communication technologies, it enables high-speed, stable, and long-distance data transmission, achieving speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps). Industry forecasts predict that 10G optical networks will become a major focus in the information and communications sector within the next 5 to 8 years.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China launched a pilot program for 10G optical networks in cities and regions with the necessary infrastructure. The program focuses on key applications such as residential communities, factories, and industrial parks. Henan Mobile has been actively driving the initiative, leveraging its jointly established "Starlight Lab" with Huawei to overcome the challenges of integrating 50G-PON with FTTR. This breakthrough has enabled network bandwidth to reach 10 gigabits per second. With the upgraded 10G optical modem, users can enjoy ultra-fast downloads and an enhanced smart living experience.
