Henan's R&D investment hits 121.166 billion yuan in 2023, exceeding 100 billion for 3 consecutive years

According to data released by the Henan Provincial Statistics Bureau on October 10, Henan's total investment in research and development (R&D) reached 121.166 billion yuan in 2023, marking a year-on-year increase of 6.0%. The ratio of R&D expenditure to GDP was 2.05%, 0.09 percentage points higher than the previous year.

R&D investment, referred to as an "investment in the future", serves as a key indicator for evaluating the scale and quality of a country or region's commitment to scientific and technological innovation. It also highlights the potential of a country or region to influence and lead in the future economic landscape.

As early as 2021, Henan became one of the provinces in China with R&D investment exceeding 100 billion yuan. By 2022, Henan's R&D investment had reached 114.326 billion yuan. According to the newly-released 2023 National Science and Technology Expenditure Statistics Bulletin, the R&D investmentof 12 provinces and municipalities across China, including Henan, along with Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing, Zhejiang, Shandong, Shanghai, Hubei, Sichuan, Hunan, Anhui and Fujian, has exceeded 100 billion yuan. Henan's R&D investment has now surpassed 100 billion yuan for three consecutive years.
