On May 16, China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (CREG) unveiled its super large diameter Earth Pressure Balance Shield Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) named "CRECNo. 1418", which represent China's largest diameter TBM sever exported to Italy and will go into service in the Lot 1A project in Salerno, Italy.
The project is located in the northern part of Sicily and involves the construction of 3 railway tunnels totaling nearly 9 kilometers in length, traversing complex geological conditions. For this project, CREG has built 3 super large diameter Earth Pressure Balance Shield TBMs, each with a diameter of 13.46 meters, a total length of 183 meters, and a weight of 2,900 tons.
These TBMs utilize an active articulated structure and have been carefully designed to address various adverse geological conditions.They incorporate innovative techniques such as continuous excavation and intelligent maintenance, and feature an ATEX explosion-proof design, which significantly enhance excavation efficiency and safety.
