Henan's consumer price remains stable in February, up 0.7% y-o-y

The consumer price of Central China's Henan province in February has increased year-on-year, said a source from the Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics in Henanon March 15. Statistically, the figure increased by 0.7 percent year-on-year and 1.1 percent month-on-month. From January to February, on average, Henan's consumer price basically remained the same from a year earlier, and the overall price remained stable.

In terms of year-on-year comparison, the prices of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 0.1 percent, driving up the CPI by about 0.02 percentage points. Among food products, the prices of fresh vegetables, aquatic products and livestock meat rose by 11.4 percent, 1.5 percent and 0.8 percent respectively, while the prices of fresh fruits and eggs fell by 3.7 percent and 7.3 percent.

In terms of month-on-month comparison, the prices of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 2.3 percent, driving up the CPI by about 0.63 percentage points. Among food products, the prices of fresh vegetables, livestock meat, fresh fruits and aquatic products rose by 14.5 percent, 5.1 percent, 4.2 percent and 3.3 percent respectively, while the price of eggs fell by 3.3 percent.

According to the analysis of the source, the increase of the February's consumer price year-on-year and the substantial increase of the demand for travelling and entertainment during the Spring Festival (although the 2024 Spring Festivaldid not fall on the same period over last year's) indicate that the recovery of household consumption is gaining momentum. Overall, it is expected that Henan's consumer price will still run steadily in the near future.
