Located at the foot of Songshan Mountain, Songyang Academy is one of the top 4 ancient Chinese institutions of higher learning. Founded under the name Songyang Temple in 484 as a Buddhist shrine, it was renamed several times before being given its current name in 1035, the second year of Song Emperor Renzong's reign.
The Songyang Academy has the Han Dynasty General Cypress, the Monument to the Tang Dynasty for the Induction of Holy Virtue, and other cultural relics. In addition, there are more than 50 steles in the Songyang Academy, including the Cypress General Named by Han Emperor Wudi, Poetry Stele by Huang Tingjian of the Northern Song Dynasty, Four-word Inscriptions Stele of the Ming Dynasty, and the Stone carved Map of Dengfeng County. All of these possess high literary and artistic value. (Video: Zhao Hanqing & Yang Jiaxin)
