The Dengfeng Observatory is located at the Gaocheng Town of Dengfeng City Henan Province which is the "center of sky and earth". It is adjacent to Songshan Mountain in the north, JishanMountain and Yingshui River in the south, the capital city of Dayu in the west and the Yangcheng of Eastern Zhou Dynasty in the east. Here the transportation is convenient, and the environment is beautiful. Most buildings in the scenic spot is built in the "center". There are main buildings and sites including Zhaobi, Gate to a monastery, Observatory of Duke Zhou, Temple of Duke Zhou, Dengfeng Observatory of Guo Shoujing in Yuan Dynasty, Diyao Hall and building sites of Yuan Dynasty along the central axis. The periphery of the scenic spot is an ecologicalcultural park consistingof landscaping system, astronomical experience instruments, some cultural attractions and road system.
The ancient Dengfeng Observatory has a history of more than 700 years till now. It has experienced a lotand has often been destroyed. Now the scenic spot of Dengfeng Observatory is a place to share the public the astronomical science knowledge, organize research and study tour activities, and carry out patriotic education. It is alsoa good place for domestic and foreign visitors to learn Chinese traditionalculture.
On August 1, 2010, the DengfengObservatory was added to the world cultural heritage list by UNESCO. On November 30, 2016, the "24 Solar Terms" conceived by the DengfengObservatory and the Observatory of Duke Zhou was added to the world intangible cultural heritage list by UNESCO.
