The number of museums (memorials) across Henan jumped from 180 in 2012 to 384 in 2022, attracting 278 million visitors. Among them, 259 are free to the public.

Henan's Luoyang city has a civilization of more than 5,000 years, and served as a capital for 13 dynasties for over 1,500 years in history. So far, Luoyang is home to 6 UNESCO World Heritage sites, 51 national cultural heritage sites under key protection, 146 key cultural heritage sites under the protection of the province, and 9,000 immovable cultural relics. Besides, Luoyang has more than 600 thousand pieces (sets) of state-owned cultural relics and 51,914 non state-owned ones. Now, Luoyang ranks first in the province in both the number of museums and the number of museums above national Grade III. With 102 museums and memorials, Luoyang, dubbed the Oriental Capital of Museums, has basically formed a museum system with diverse themes, providing a cultural feast for visitors around the world.
