Chinese archaeologists announced today (Sept. 16) that some new major discoveries have been made at the capital city site of the Xia Dynasty (2070-1600 BC) in Luoyang city of Henan province, including more roads and walls, which have further proved Erlitou's multi-grid layout. And such a city layout is believed to be the embryonic form of today's block system. More roads and rammed earth walls on their sides have been discovered since 2021. Rich pottery remains were found for the first time in the northern part of the site. Nearly 100 square meters of bone and horn processing workshops were found at the southwest corner of the palace areas. To the west of the sacrificial areas, large dwelling sites and high standard burial grounds were found. They are of great significance to study China's early capital system, handicraft industry, social economy, etiquette and funeral system.
