China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project (central route) had transferred 43.817 billion cubic meters of water to the country's drought-prone north by February 21, 2022, of which 15.407 billion cubic meters were diverted to Henan, accounting for 35.2 percent of the total, with 3.283 billion cubic meters supplied to 26 rivers and 8 lakes/reservoirs across the province. A total of 16 million people in 101 towns of 43 counties or county-level cities (urban areas) of 11 prefecture-level cities have been benefiting from the central route. The water quality meets the standard of China's Environmental Quality Standard for Surface Water (Type II) or above.
