Henan province is a place where the brilliant Chinese Wushu (martial arts) culture originated. On the afternoon of November 9, a ceremony marking the launch of the online training course on Chinese Wushu was held by the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee and the Chinese Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which aims to introduce Chinese Wushu to the world and promote closer people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Shaolin and Taichi -- the highlights to the world

Wushu, an integral part of the excellent traditional Chinese culture, contains the precious spirits of striving for progress, self-renewal and inclusiveness. Cultural diversity urges Wushu, a sport with typical Oriental culture and characteristics, to be recognized and enjoyed by people all over the world.

"As the famous saying goes, 'Kungfu (Wushu) originates from the Shaolin Temple', which vividly illustrates Henan's position in the culture of Chinese Wushu." According to Wang Ziwen, deputy director-general of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee, Henan is one of the cradles of Chinese civilization and also a place where the brilliant Chinese Wushu culture originated. Since the world-renowned Shaolin Kungfu and Chen-style Taichi are all originated from Henan, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world come to the Shaolin Temple and Chenjiagou to learn Shaolin Kungfu and practice Taichi every year. So far, more than 150 countries have established Taichi centers attracting over 300 million practitioners.

In recent years, Henan has been actively promoting Chinese Wushu to the world to boost exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, said Wang Ziwen. Since 2019, Henan Foreign-aid Training Center has successfully hosted several online Wushu training activities for the Wushu fans in Grenada, Latvia, Bolivia, etc., which were well received.

To promote closer people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges

According to Chen Guixiang, vice president of Henan University of Technology (HAUT), HAUT and Henan Foreign-aid Training Center have elaborately produced a series of online courses and lectures themed Chinese Wushu, including Shaolin Kungfu and Chen-style Taichi, and will organize professionals and coaches to provide more online guidance to meet their demands during the pandemic.

"Apart from the Wushu courses, lectures on the origin and development of Shaolin Kungfu and Chen-style Taichi will also be staged to promote cultural exchanges through Wushu," said Zhang Yi, director of the Foreign-aid Training Center of the HAUT's Distance and Continuing Education School, also executive director of Henan Foreign-aid Training Center, told dahe.cn.

Wang Zhanwen also expressed in his speech that this online training course is bound to promote closer people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind with the unique value of Wushu in boosting human health, well-being and sustainable development.

After the ceremony, the Office of Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPC Henan Provincial Committee presented 20 sets of Shaolin and Taichi, two volumes of the "Chinese Civilization·Stories from Henan" series, to the Chinese Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be delivered to Bosnia and Herzegovina's Olympic Committee, four universities and Chinese Cultural Center. Chen Haijun, the 12th generation inheritor of Chen-style Taichi and a 6th-grade coach of Chinese Wushu, also demonstrated Taichi online, showing the charm of Chinese Wushu.
