Even mountains and seas cannot distance people with common aspirations. On May 9, 2018, Zhengzhou and Amiens signed a letter of intent to establish a sister city relationship, building a bridge of friendship.
Located on the Somme River, the city is one of the important industrial and commercial centers in northern France, known as the Venice of northern France, with a population about 300,000. Lying within the one-hour economic circle of Paris, Amiens is the transportation hub of France, where several expressways and railways meet.
Amiens is also one of the famous university towns in France. It has a long history, dating back to the Paleolithic Period. The city grew rapidly in the Middle Ages and the famous Amiens Cathedral was built. This gothic building has long been a symbol of Amiens. About 500 years old, it is the largest church in France, twice the size of Notre Dame de Paris, and it is also one of the most beautiful churches in France. It is understood that, in order to highlight the grandeur of the cathedral, the buildings around the church were moved away to create the open square in front of the church today. On summer and Christmas nights, people from all over the world gather in the square to enjoy the unique lighting ceremony.
In mid-May 2018, vice mayor of Amiens came to Zhengzhou with a visiting delegation to attend the second Global Conference for Cross-border E-commerce, where he held talks on medicine, biopharmacy, education, agriculture and soil management, real estate development, automobile equipment manufacturing, food sales and other fields, and established preliminary cooperation intention with Yufa Group, YUTONG, Zhengzhou Central Hospital, Zhengzhou Orthopedics Hospital and Kangjia Ecological Agriculture Demonstration Park.
On September 28, 2018, a delegation from the People's Government of Zhengzhou Municipality visited Amiens. Amiens held a promotion meeting for the emerging industries for the delegation, covering the achievements in energy, green power generation, development and promotion of storage battery, high-end jewelry design, artificial intelligence application, big data + tourism resources.
On October 19 ~ 23, 2018, Amiens sent a delegation to attend the 12th Zhengzhou China International Shaolin Wushu Festival, visit Zhengzhou Municipal Education Bureau, Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV and Tourism, Zhengzhou Health Bureau, and Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprises, and hold discussions with Zhengzhou University of Science and Technology, YUTONG, ZIH and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Henan Sub-Council. TheCooperation Framework Agreement between Zhengzhou University of Science and Technology and the University of Amienswas also signed.
On March 22, 2019, ZIH visited Amiens and conducted in-depth communication and exchanges on the extension of Zhengzhou-Liege rail freight transport to Amiens and the establishment of cargo terminals.
With the deepening of opening-up, Zhengzhou, an inland city not along the river or the sea, is becoming the forefront of opening-up. In Zhengzhou's "circle of friends", there have been dozens of international "friends" like Amiens.
